Whew! If last night’s loss left a bad taste in the mouth, the start to Sunday’s game was like drinking acid. Dillon Gee got severely knocked around for 11 hits and eight runs over just 3.2 innings of “work”. His value to both this team or any other has got to be at a career low. It felt like the beginning of the end for a variety of reasons. To add salt to the wound, the Mets had to part with a nice prospect in order to complete the deal for Alex Torres, who struggled again to show why he’s worth the cost.

But something miraculous occurred. The bullpen did not allow another run to score for the remaining 5.1 innings, thanks to Sean Gilmartin who redeemed the group at large from the night before, and good old Jeurys Familia who was back to write the win in stone. The offense literally came out of nowhere with home runs from Darrell Ceciliani (his first in the majors), Dilson Herrera (who also had a stolen base, and an amazing glove flip to end the 8th), Juan Lagares (who’s batting .342 over his last 10 games) and Travis d’Arnaud (who’s driven in four runs in just five games back from the DL). Of the starting lineup, only Ruben Tejada did not either score a run or drive one in. It was a necessary, absolutely crucial display of offensive prowess that this team needed, like Kevin Plawecki needed antibiotics to quell his dizziness. It was victory from the clutches of defeat, a nice turnaround from yesterday and many games of this past early season.

Will it be a precursor of things to come? Can Noah Syndergaard upend his last two ineffective starts and give this team a fighting chance against the juggernaut Toronto Blue Jays who are sweeping into town on broomsticks made of Louisville Sluggers? I guess we’ll find out.

Was that fight that we saw in these Mets? Very rare now-a-days. In any event, this is a big win heading into a series against the best offensive team in the majors. If deGrom is not starting than it could come down to who hits more, and 10 runs shows that they can still hit. Lets Go Mets!

I dont agree julian. The mets have a ton of fight in them. Injuries to top players make it difficult to. By the way we are still in first despite the constant whining by our terrific fanbase lol

Let the youth show the way. Also, can’t let Gee struggle much longer as they do have options (Montero or Matz)).

Whodathunk the Mets could win a slugfest!!
Sandy has held onto Gee way past his trade expiration date and the same mold that grew on Ike Davis is now on him. Remember Ike Davis for Matt Joyce? This year it is Gee for Uribe. Who would you rather have playing third base, Uribe or Muno/Campell/ Tejada ? Who would you rather have pinch hitting when Murphy comes back, Uribe or Campbell?
The bullpen was great. Familia is an All Star.
