Another embarrassing loss. Another terrific pitching performance, which hasn’t been a given of late, wasted. Another feeble performance by the offense. Am I being too critical? A five-game losing streak in which the Mets have been outscored 24-6, and a sweep by the Atlanta Braves says I’m not.
Where oh where to start to plug the holes. No one is hitting, and few are drawing walks. The Mets road record is getting so bad, they might as well call the mercy rule and stay in their hotel rooms. Is this being a bad fan? Is it wrong to see the high potential of this team, and yet be disgusted by the fact that extremely little of it is reaching fruition? I mean, Terry Collins can’t go out and hit for these guys, can he? Because if he could, that would be great.
Time to can Terry before this gets totally out of control.
I’d say Harvey did the job of “stopper”Brian wanted him too.Sadly the bats offered no assistance at all.
Starting Rotation: Harvey, deGrom, Matz, Niese, Colon . Could the Mets win a pennant with this rotation? Yes
Is Grandy, TdA, Tulo, Duda, Cuddyer, Murphy, Flores, Lagares. A formidle lineup to win a pennant? Yes
Sandy, why are you waiting?
The first move has to be the easiest. Then, it would seem that either make a trade, or shut down Lagares and get him fixed.
Why was there no chat for today’s game?
Chat didn’t auto-publish – got going around the 5th inning.
And without a doubt – Lagares is hurting the club out there right now. I tip my hat to him for his willingness to play through this but he absolutely cannot throw and let’s be honest, he’s not in there for his bat. He’s actually got a negative UZR/150 for the year right now.
I see that and read the chat. I also think that Tulo may help now, but more I’d like to shake up this team:
1. Collins. While this team cannot score runs, would it hurt to try to manufacture one occasionally? It has been written that Collins’ constant tension affects the team. Doesn’t it?
2. Move Granderson down already and stop acting like his walks jump start the lineup. They don’t, and he doesn’t walk anymore. Just a stubborn manager that will definitely wait until it’s too late because like Ike Davis at cleanup or Tejada at leadoff years ago or keeping Buck at cleanup, he will never adjust a lineup to today’s production but will leave a player in a position until he has done the team unrepairable harm.
3. I dont think it’s the defense that is hurting the team as they aren’t hitting at all, again! This happened for most of May. There seems to be too much distraction within this team and players cannot settle down. Everyone shows spurts, but no one can maintain.
4. Are we snakebit with all these injuries or just not sharp? Yesterday Tejada could have gotten his ankle broken by blocking the base with the slide of that player. Familia pulls a groin trying to get ready quickly. Something is not quite right on this team.
It gets so frustrating watching this team. Matt Harvey does everything asked of him, and the offense can’t even produce one run. Such a shame that this happens too often with this lineup.
It’s the manager! After 5 yrs of this it has to be. What are we supposed to do, hand this guy the keys and say “here Terry it’s yours till you’re ready to retire”. Uhm no….this guy is not Bruce Bochy or Terry francona. He hasn’t won squat in his career. He came in with a bad reputation and this team hasn’t resembled anything close to over achievement or any sustainable winning for the last 5 yrs. It’s time for a new voice and anyone who suggests otherwise is naive, arrogant or both.
It’s the GM . . . who hired the manager.
The guy who forced out Bochy . . . to hire Bud Black.
The same guy who forced out LaRussa . . . to hire Art Howe.
The guy who installed Terry Collins and renewed him . . . twice.
The guy who brought us Frank Frank, Rauch, Andres Torres, CY, Abreu, Cuddyer, Grandy, Marcum, Aardsma…etc., etc….
And failed to deal for Niese and Gee when both had value, sat on his brain when dealing with Ike, failed to find a lead off hitter (Aoki perhaps?), reliable power hitter, or solve shortstop despite the fact everyone who even casually follows the game could see otherwise.
The guy who built a star pitching staff, but can’t build a defense to support it like a pitching first team should have.
He inherited Harvey, deGrom, and Matz.
ok, fair enough. I suppose I gave him credit for actually promoting them to the big club!
I’d be fine with Sandy getting his walking papers, and taking TC with him.
