The Mets snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Brewers Thursday afternoon.

  • The Mets got a glimpse of what life would be like without Terry Collins, who was ejected during the game. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but without their fearless skipper at the helm, they won.
  • Jacob deGrom was phenomenal once again. He was in complete control over eight shutout innings and allowed just four hits. He even contributed offensively, delivering a single and scoring the game’s final run. deGrom now sports a 2.15 ERA for the season.
  • The Mets exploded for 10 hits and had two others reach base with a walk. You’d hope for more runs than two with 12 baserunners, but let’s not start getting greedy or anything.
  • Hopefully this series reinforced the idea that there’s no sense in acquiring either Aramis Ramirez or Jean Segura. Ramirez was 1-for-6 and carries a dismal .654 OPS. Segura was 1-for-11 and checks in with a .645 OPS. These are not upgrades – they are as useless as the guys we’re trying to replace.

Apparently Matz promoted and will get Niese’s start Sunday.

      And he’s batting .375.

Glad to read Murphy played 3B today for St. Lucie.

DeGrom is really rolling, pitching at a rarefied level.

Geren pushing all the right buttons. The team just responds to him.

      Geren is magical.

Bring up Tovar …. Bring up Matz…..

JdG pitched like the Ace he is and Familia closed it out like he usually does. Both pitchers should make the All Star team.
I was glad to see TC tossed. It guaranteed that JdG would not be incorrectly taken out like in his last start.
Kirk hit two home runs yesterday and 11 Las Vegas players have a batting average over 280. The Mets need to get out of Las Vegas because it is obviously teaching the hitters bad habits. The type of hitting approach used in Las Vegas does not work in the majors.
That being said, how can a fan not salivate on the call up of Steve Matz and his 2.19 Las Vegas ERA ? The same Steve Matz who threw a near no hitter in a AA playoff game. The only drawback is that TC can’t handle a pitching staff, let alone a six man rotation. BTW there is also another pitcher in Las Vegas with a 2.19 ERA. An older retread, Duane Belows. Most organizations would classify him as emergency spot call up starter. It just shows that the Mets don’t need to hoarde all their pitching. They have plenty of pitching depth to trade in order to fill in temporary needs and improve the current team.
Syndergaard-Harvey-Matz at least sounds exciting this weekend.

May they fare better than deGrom, Syndergaard and Harvey this past weekend in Atlanta…
