The Mets continued their mastery over the Rockies with a 14-9 victory Saturday night in a game that was as good for the team’s batting average as it was bad for the fans’ eyes. It was New York’s 10th straight win over Colorado and the second straight by this particular score.
- All eight of the hitters in the lineup for the Mets had multi-hit games. Juan Uribe had only one hit, a homer, before the ninth when he slashed a double for his second hit of the game. Seven of the eight hitters drove in a run with only Michael Cuddyer failing to notch an RBI.
- The Mets posted nine doubles on the night, with Curtis Granderson and Travis d’Arnaud each notching two apiece.
- The less said about the pitching, the better. Jon Niese has had some tough-luck losses and no-decisions so it’s hard to complain too much about him getting a win in a game in which he allowed 7 ER.
- The useless LOOGY made a brief appearance and saw his ERA climb to 14.73 when he surrendered a homer to Jose Reyes. Gary Cohen stated the obvious about the useless one when he said, “He simply cannot get a righthanded hitter out.” Most people would view that as a problem. The Mets’ response was to add another LOOGY.
- Despite having a 14-3 lead at one point, the Mets used both Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia in the game. Terry Collins is a card-carrying member of Panic City.
Brian, Collins is one of Panic City’s most honorable citizens. That was terrible.
Michael Cuddyer keeps trying to show off his range, but they should just put him at second if he likes to cover stuff that far away. However, nice pickup on the Tejada throw.
One more tomorrow, and let’s please blow this joint.
I will refrain on speaking about O’Flaherty because it’s obvious…
I’ve had enough offense for the season.
I’m ready for some crisp 1-0 games again
It does make you think, does it not, that the Western
Division teams that play at Coors Field nine times a season might not be all that much stronger offensively than the Mets.
And boy, will I be happy the day the Mets’ contract with Las Vegas expires. That hitting environment, it’s just too distorting for normal consumption.
Pitching Clippard and Familia in 14-9 wins is irresponsible.
Oh-Oh should go-go !
A five game lead feels so nice.
Coors field stats are a joke and Las Vegas should be flushed but the toilets don’t work.
Sorry guys, I disagree. I think the Clippard / Familia combo was absolutely necessary. Just in the past 2 games the Rockies have had several crooked number innings, and it’s Colorado. This was a game you can’t lose after throwing up 14. Today will solve itself. In the end familia warmed up and threw 14 pitches.
I watched the highlights and then the third inning on replay. Poor kid Rusin.
