“A testament to his stature was the fact that Tuesday was the fourth time this season Matz had been taken into a separate room for a news conference at Citi Field, doubling the number of starts he has actually made for the Mets. He also spoke the day before his first appearance on June 28; after his debut of seven and two-thirds quality innings, in which he struck out six while also collecting three hits and four R.B.I.; and after he and General Manager Sandy Alderson somberly announced that he would go on the disabled list with a torn left latissimus muscle.
What made that last time Matz stepped in front of the microphones so disheartening was that he had notified the Mets after his first start of tightness in his left arm. He did not show any indicators on July 5, when he allowed two hits and struck out eight over six scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but apparently the injury was worse than thought.
“It’s all in the past now,” Matz said. “I feel like I had pretty good judgment, and stuff just happens sometimes in baseball, so it wasn’t too much of a setback. Missed a couple of months, but I’m back here ready to go.”

I’m trying to temper my excitement for the possible difference he could make to this team. Especially against a league that hasn’t fully seen him yet. Very dangerous.
