After a 2:20 rain delay, the Mets went out and took care of business, defeating the lowly Braves, 7-2, and sending Shelby Miller to his 13th straight loss. With the win, the Mets’ magic number dropped to 16.
- Bartolo Colon pitched into the seventh and picked up the win. He continues to feast against the dregs of the NL East. Colon is now 12-1 against the Braves, Marlins and Phillies and 2-10 against the rest of MLB.
- Kevin Plawecki had a two-run double in the fourth inning to start the scoring and finished with 3 RBIs. Juan Uribe also had 3 RBIs, two coming on a two-run double in the ninth inning.
- Dario Alvarez came on to hurl 1.1 scoreless innings and Addison Reed put two runners on base but escaped without allowing a run in the ninth.
- The Mets are now a season-high 18 games over .500 and are 43-24 (.642) over their last 67 games.
After beating the Nationals, there were plenty of comments. Now although we feared a Mets letdown, in reality the Mets’ fans had a letdown.
Great write up Brian, and although it’s tough to realize who can help you in the playoffs when the competition is not the best, it seems that Alvarez may be the LOOGY Collins has been looking for. Too, I would have liked to see Gilmartin or Goeddel get some work in lieu of Colon’s seventh inning, but Collins hasn’t made a mistake since the Mets started hitting, so what do I know?
A .642 winning over 67 games is an indicator of a great team. That is a 104 win season ! Right now, there is not one weakness on this team. Last night they just dismantled an inferior Braves team.
To that point, Metsense, the two guys who couldn’t sniff a start in the Nats series go out and drive in 3 runs each last night. Everybody plays, everybody contributes.
Shelby Miller, man. That poor unlucky schmuck reminds me of Bob Ojeda’s 1988 season, and perhaps even worse.
I dunno — I hear 13 straight losses and the guy I think of is Anthony Young.
