There will be a Game 5 as the Mets could not muster any offense one night after exploding for 13 runs in their last game and they fell to the Dodgers, 3-1.
Clayton Kershaw was too much to handle, even pitching on three days rest. He limited the Mets to just three hits and one run over seven innings. Kershaw found his strikeout groove mid game, as he notched outs via the whiff in six of seven outs starting with the last out in the fourth. He finished with eight punchouts.
Daniel Murphy supplied the only offense with a homer to right field.
The Mets made a two-out rally in the eighth inning, with Curtis Granderson and David Wright drawing walks. But Murphy flied out to end the threat.
The series moves back to LA for the deciding fifth game and the Mets will turn to Jacob deGrom in their hopes to move on to the NLCS.
David wright is the highest paid 3b in the game and is the biggest bum ever. Can he retire and take his boyfriend cuddyer with him 35 million for those 2 pigs
Kershaw is great.
I don’t think David Wright has squared up a baseball in his last 30 swings.
Lucas Duda needs to show up. Same for Travis d’Arnaud.
With all the strikeouts, we’ve seen very little defense on either side.
And ultimately, nothing has changed: Mets need a great starting pitching performance to advance. Not good. Not very good. But great.
All hands on deck. Who wants to be the hero?
I nominate Travis d’Arnaud, with some other unnamed Met(s) on base ahead of him.
With 3 of 4 games against lefty starters, Duda has looked awful at the plate. Rather than shoehorn Cuddyer in left field, perhaps he could have played first. Though i doubt he would have done much against Kershaw.
Matz had two bad pitches equalling one bad inning and one playoff loss.
Kershaw was vintage 3 time Cy Young winner.
deGrom vs Greinke, a classic matchup. If the Mets get to the Dodger middle relief
they should be at an advantage. After deGrom comes Syndergaard, Harvey and Familia. I like our chances. It is up to deGrom to stalemate Greinke. He will.
I tip my hat to the old warrior Colon for his pitching last night. If Murphy just turned on the ball more often. He is a good hitter. Clippard and Familia had good innings and Reed the night before. Conforto will start. We are ready and prepared to give it our all.
Let’s Go Mets!
I wonder if TC had considered putting in Cuddyer at 1B over Lucas Duda, against lefty Kershaw.
I hope Conforto is in left field for Game 5.
I think the Cuddyer at 1B was something to consider last night, however Cuddyer looked miserable in Game One against Kershaw.
PH’ing last night he looked just as horrendous. Brutal.
I think you have to debate Duda vs. Johnson for Game 5, given that Lucas is 2-26 w/ 19 K’s over last 8 games.
But . . . Johnson is 0-9 vs. Grienke, so that’s not encouraging enough. I think you’ve got to have a talk with the Big Guy, keep the faith, and hope he finds a way to barrel something up.
This is why Kershaw is Kershaw…
So frustrating. But Kershaw was ridiculous once he found his curve. Just dominant. Hopefully we see something similar from deGrom tomorrow.
David wright needs to retire
