The Mets rebounded from Saturday’s disappointment with a 5-0 win over the Phillies, taking the rubber game of their three-game set and moving to seven games over .500 for the year.

  • Jacob deGrom was magnificent. He pitched the first complete game of his major league career and the first one by a Mets pitcher this season. He allowed just one hit, a single up the middle by the opposing pitcher. It was the first one-hitter by a Met since R.A. Dickey in 2012.
  • It’s the continuation of masterful pitching by deGrom. In his last nine starts, he has a 1.92 ERA. While we wait to see if Matz and Syndergaard can stay healthy and if Colon can keep the clock from striking midnight, it’s nice to have one pitcher who is dominating with no questions asked.
  • With the win, deGrom goes to 15-3 all time in day games. The 2016 Mets are now 18-11 in the afternoon and 31-31 in night games.
  • Curtis Granderson and Asdrubal Cabrera went deep but it was more than the HR offense today. Jose Reyes had an RBI double and Juan Lagares had an RBI triple. James Loney had two hits and two runs scored.
  • Yoenis Cespedes returned to the lineup but did not get a hit. The only other starter to do that was Neil Walker. The 3-4 hitters went 0-for-7. Walker might be the worst choice in the lineup right now to be hitting cleanup.

Gary Cohen mentioned that all five runs were driven in with two outs. Sweet music to our ears.

    Ces back in the lineup
    Conforto back up
    Lagares and Grandy hot
    Duda on his way back

    6 games back of first.

I’m optimistic with the right variables lined up…let’s see how Thors tired arm looks….that’s my first one.

I haven’t heard anything about Duda being anywhere near ready to start playing minor league games. Has there been news? Or did you just throw that out there off the top of your head?

    The Phillies were DeGrominated!
Cabrera is having a nice month, heck, he is having a nice season. It is hard to fathom he is 0-25 with RISP.
Lagares may see some more time in CF to relieve Cespedes from running.
I would be a good time to see Walker sit some. Flores and Johnson are growing mold with their hot hitting wasted on the bench.
It was a fun Summer Sunday watching the game with the Game Chatter.

Duda is “back to baseball activities”…. that means they’re gonna see if he can swing a bat, field a ball, run bases without pain or injury. Think of it as the first day of Spring training, without any baseball prep.

Well, I guess its my time to vent on Collins. I mean seriously, Conforto as the primary CF? Its a gross misuse of talent. Its back to Collins definitely dislikes certain players, and will do anything to stop them. Lagares is a centerfielder producing nicely and giving pretty good at bats…and has a GG. But we are going to pass him over for someone with not even a full year of experience, who has never fielded this defense-critical position, and had to be sent down to the minors for being the worst hitter on the team — in front of Lagares. Its a mystery.
