The struggling Mets got of the schneid (whatever that means) with a 6-4 win over the Rockies to end a four-game losing streak and close out a frustrating month of July. On a day when the Mets lineup resembled a b-team with Alejandro de Aza leading off, James Loney batting third, and not an All-Star to be found, the team pulled out a much needed win.
Noah Syndergaard pitched well but was not economical enough with his pitches to go beyond six innings. Jerry Blevins labored through a tough 7th innings, leaving the bases loaded after surrendering a run that gave the Rockies a 4-3 lead. That lead didn’t last beyond the commercial break however, as a clutch 3-run homer from Neil Walker put the Mets ahead for good. Addison Reed pitched another sterling 8th inning and the Familia we know and love reemerged to shut it down 1-2-3 in the 9th.
Beyond red hot Walker who went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs, De Aza contributed two hits and a walk to put his average up to a season high .213, Brandon Nimmo drove in a run with a single and Rene Rivera made another diving tag at home to save a critical run. The bad news is that Asdrubal Cabrera exited the game with an apparent knee injury that could be serious.
The trade deadline looms so perhaps we’ll have an extra helping hand to join us for the upcoming home and away series vs. the Yankees. LGM!
Well we can all take a deep breath and exhale. However, the Yankees are up next and thanks the MLB game schedule the Yankees are now positioned to make or break the Mets stretch run and season. So, it is time to think and speak loudly Lets Go Mets! Four straight (we must think as positive as we possibly can) would be more than enough to make every Mets fan sit up straighter and think and speak more positively about our team. Going into these four games Betances is all that is left over the Yankees once fearsome threesome at the back end of their game. So, for four consecutive games we have to have the lead after the concluding 8th inning’s third out. This is now actually sounding doable the this Mets fan. How about all of you? Can we all think and speak Lets Go Mets!, mean it and through our positive support perhaps make 4 straight wins a reality that we can all enjoy and cheer about?
Clint Barmes had an ERA over five and so this was a game they had to win. Colorado deserved this series as they won 8 in a row with a team ERA of 1.80 over those eight games.
Hoping the Mets can play one game at a time, one series at a time and get back into the wild card spot, at least.
All six runs today were scored with two outs and Collins left Blevins in to pitch the whole inning. Baby steps.
One negative note is the shortstop that seemed like the glue of the infield is going to be out for a while. I heard the name TJ Rivera, but I can’t believe Alderson actually remembered him.
Walker building trade value. Time to move him
+1!
Walker also hit a bullet that was snagged by the first baseman in the 5th. Had that play not been made, he would have had a cycle.
Curtis Granderson has a 139 wRC+ with the bases empty this year. With men on base it is 38.
Just saw the replay of the Cabrera injury, as his foot slid over the third base bag as the plastic cleats didn’t get into the bag. It’s an ugly injury, but the heart he showed finishing the play and scoring is something that shouldn’t be forgotten. Many players would have stopped right there and no one would blame them. But, that was 100% heart and the kind of player we need more of.
Lets Go Mets!
The Mets are literally limping to the dog days of August as Cabrera stumbled home with his knee barking. Cecchhini should get the promotion. TJ Rivera could be considered if they want a third baseman/ SS leaving Flores at SS.
Both players are not on the 40 man roster.Reynolds, with his Las Vegas enhanced 642 OPS should not considered even though he is on the 40 man roster.
Nice to see Walker hitting again. I like him but today if I could trade him for a solid prospect then I would. Strictly a business move.
Obviously a much needed win, thanks to Walker, Reed and Familia.
Lets Go Mets!
Grandy and d’Arnaud for Puig
How fast can we do that?
Not sure why the Puig love continues. I’m waiting for people to get on the Jay Bruce train. Hitting well against LHP and has a .360/.406/.719 slash line with RISP.
And already 80 RBI…
The Dodgers don’t need TdA with both their catchers better and Grandy is no help. I guess this would land in a change of scenery deal.
As for Puig, I read this weekend that a Mets FO type said “no” when asked about interest in him.
I don’t love the Jay Bruce idea for 2016…but it would be a part of a Go-Forward move. He’s a good ballplayer…I like Good Ballplayers!
Interesting SS move ahead—if Cheech is not in a Deal, I would expect him instead of Reynolds.
I agree about making a change to the 40-man roster to give Cheech a shot. We’ve seen enough of Reynolds and Campbell to know they are not MLB players.
How many lefty outfielders does one team need? Assuming Cespy and Grandy would not be part of the deal, does Grandy become an old CF or an overpriced platoon player? You have to assume either Conforto or Nimmo would be included in this deal.
