The Mets bounced back from sad Sunday with a solid pitching performance from Noah Syndergaard and a 19-hit attack that resulted in 12 runs. Marlins manager Don Mattingly ran through eight pitchers, but every hitter in the Mets lineup feasted on them. Curtis Granderson drove in three runs as did Lucas Duda who did so on a bases clearing double. Jose Reyes contributed three hits and Jay Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes each homered. Even Syndergaard got two hits.
Syndergaard looked sharp, allowing just one run over six innings, striking out eight. Fernando Salas, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia closed out the game with three clean innings. The overworked trio was suddenly getting rusty sitting on the bench during the recent run of blowouts and losses.
At the moment of this writing, the Mets (84-74) sit in the #1 wild card spot, a game ahead of the Giants and two ahead of the Cardinals, but that will change before the night is over, so watch the scoreboard! The Mets go for the series win tomorrow night in Miami with Seth Lugo (4-2, 2.61 ERA) vs. righty Jose Urena (4-8, 5.95 ERA). Just four games left to play. Let’s go Mets!
The Mets could have scored 20. If they don’t win tomorrow, they suck. The Marlins are drained from the emotion of the last two days. No one cares. Time to finish the job.
I want Duda in there tomorrow and definitely Johnson for Rivera.
The Marlins pitching will be horrible for quite a few years. They need to figure out how to add quality arms.
Dominant pitching and hitting. Duda and Bruce hit rockets but Cespedes launched a moonshot. The back end of the bullpen is rested and can pitch in all four games if needed. Keep to the formula and win the series tonight. Cards and Giants have 5 games left so they have extra pressure to win the “extra” game just to keep pace. Lets Go Mets.
Cards, Mets, Giants all score 12 runs each.
Game on.
Glad to see the Granny love here. He slashing .270/.405/.663 with 24 RBIs in his last 111 PA.

The comments are actually more interesting than the article, which basically says Bruce is streaky and getting hurt with outside fastballs. Although, it was interesting to learn that 2014 was a knee injury for Bruce and it may have taken into 2015 to recover.
TexasGusCC – thanks for sharing. You’re right, that first comment is very telling about Bruce. It goes beyond stats. He’s a bit of a head case and he’s not suited to NY. Aside from that, and his career of streakiness, he’s completely redundant.
I don’t think he should be back next year even if we lose Cespedes. Not only are he and Granderson redundant in the field, but he and Duda are redundant in the lineup. Now that all three of those guys are on track, how do you have three high strikeout lefties in the lineup? Without Wright and Flores it’s hard to imagine how we could beat Bumgarner in a WC game. And now we have to probably leave two out of three of Nimmo, de Aza and Conforto off the post-season roster to accommodate.
