Here’s what happened on this day in New York Mets history:

1975: New York Mets purchased Skip Lockwood from the Oakland Athletics.

1978: New York Mets purchased Gil Flores from the California Angels.

1979: Dave Kingman of the Chicago Cubs hit three home runs in a game for the second time in the season and became the sixth player in Major League history to accomplish the feat. Kingman’s homers weren’t enough as the Cubs lost to the New York Mets 6-4.

1995: New York Mets traded Bobby Bonilla and Jimmy Williams to the Baltimore Orioles for Alex Ochoa and Damon Buford.

2000: New York Mets traded Melvin Mora, Mike Kinkade, Lesli Brea and Pat Gorman to the Baltimore Orioles for Mike Bordick.

2000: New York Mets traded Paul Wilson and Jason Tyner to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Bubba Trammell and Rick White.

2003: New York Mets traded Graeme Lloyd to the Kansas City Royals for Jeremy Hill.

While we hope that Francoeur’s homer was a sign, he did hit a bad pitch by Wainwright and looked silly in first at-bat. I wouldn’t want Francoeur in big stop anytime soon, but I’m encouraged that he hit well last season although the Mets were out of it.

I don’t see NY getting much for him in a trade and Mets can’t afford to deal him since there’s no suitable replacement
