The schizophrenic Mets lost their sixth straight game, this one a 5-4 setback against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Before the current streak, the Mets had gone 8-3 in their previous 11 games. But before that, they had lost 10 of 11 games.
- Tommy Milone made his second start for the Mets and showed why he was available on the waiver wire. He’s perfectly fine as a depth starter but right now the Mets need more than he can give. Milone allowed 5 ER in 5.2 IP. In two starts with the Mets, he has a 5.91 ERA. In his last 101 IP, he has a 5.88 ERA.
- At least the bullpen didn’t get tattooed in this game. Three pitchers combined for 2.1 scoreless innings, which is a nice change from what we’ve seen previously on this road trip. Paul Sewald had another good appearance, going 1.1 IP. Since allowing 2 ER in 0.1 IP in his MLB debut, Sewald has given up just 2 ER in 11.2 IP for a 1.54 ERA and he has 14 Ks in that span.
- Rene Rivera extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Curtis Granderson had a solo homer and also drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Hey, the good news is that the NFL camps open up in 2 months! Wow…when things go bad for the Mess, they do it better than any other team. This isn’t even worthy of any TV coverage anymore. I say clean house starting with Alderson, Collins, Worthless…I mean Warthen, Harvey, D’arnaud, Wheeler, Duda, Granderson, Matz and so on. This season is done already and anyone who thinks otherwise is drinking the kool aid. Cespedes should be back soon, then after a couple weeks, he’ll be back on the DL. Here’s another shocker…David Wright isn’t going to be back soon. Really?? I don’t believe it. That’s ok, he’ll make a full recovery and next year he’ll play about 142 games. (choke, gasp!!) He’s a class act! Give him a position in the organization and go get his replacement!!
I say bring the next few minors up, trade the mentioned above for some balls or something, let them play and make some FA acquisitions next year. Hey, Daniel Murphy will be available after next year. He might be willing to come back and give us something to look forward to.
On a positive note, Mets have figured out a way to ease the burden on the bullpen: lose away games, only have to pitch 8 innings! It like getting an extra inning from the starters. Why didn’t we think of this sooner!$
Nothing like good fundies.
