After winning the first two games of the series, the Mets had to settle for a tie in the four-game set, as they were edged by the Brewers, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Citi Field.
- Zack Wheeler traded walks for hits today, as he allowed just one walk but surrendered 10 hits in 6.1 innings of work. He was helped greatly with three double plays. Not a standout game, but one that would have earned him a win most days this season.
- The Mets offense, which has been so good for most of the year, managed just one run, which came on a solo shot by Wilmer Flores. Following up Wednesday’s one-run effort, it was the fewest runs in back-to-back games for the Mets this season.
- Another good outing by the bullpen. Jerry Blevins came on in the seventh inning and stranded a runner in scoring position. Blevins was sent back out there for the eighth but allowed the first two runners to reach base. Fernando Salas bailed out Blevins and stayed on to pitch the ninth, too. He ended up striking out five batters in two scoreless innings.
Salas was excellent today! Flores (at least today) looked good at 3B, starting three double plays, I believe. Reyes is lost at the plate again. Just awful! Some Mets need to swing at those pitches at the edge of the plate more! Collins doesn’t know the rule book!
If you eliminate Zack Wheeler’s first two starts, he has a 2.86 ERA over the past 8 games.
Currently in the NL, there are a total of 6 starting pitchers with ERAs below 3.00.
He’s making small progress game by game. Threw a lot of strikes today, almost as if he was determined to pitch to contact. The talent is there.
Too bad they lost a well pitched game because of the lack of offense.
Flores with a home run. I hope he plays tomorrow.
Another solid bullpen effort without the contstant matchups.
Name and I were talking about Hansel Robles in the chatter. Here was his line from yesterday:
0.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 Ks, 2 HR
The runs can happen in the PCL. But he’s got to strike guys out to be effective.
Such a strange pitcher. It feels, from here, like it’s entirely mental with him. The arm is top-shelf and he’s enjoyed stretches of great success. Maybe he lacks that quality second pitch?
He confuses me.
Nuke!
Anyone believe in Sam Dyson?
