There have been a bunch of moves already in MLB, which leads many to believe that there won’t be a ton of action in the last few hours before today’s 4 p.m. deadline. The Mets are thought to be holding on to all three of their starting pitchers and the Nationals are supposedly keeping Bryce Harper. Will we see any other big names dealt? Chime in your trade thoughts here.
The Duvall trade is one that makes me wonder. The Braves have Acuna, Inciarte and Markakis in the outfield already – where does he play? Is this a trade about next year, where he can take over if Markakis leaves, or is this the first step in a bigger trade this year?
I had the same thought, Brian. Also, where are the Brewers going to slot all these infielders?
I think the trade was more about getting something for 2 failed former top pitching prospects (yay! other teams have failed prospects too), one of who will be out of options next year.
Why haven’t the Reds traded Harvey yet? I always assumed the only reason they got him was to flip him at the deadline.
If you were a playoff team, would you want Harvey pitching a playoff game against the Yankees or Cubs or Astros or Dodgers?
Lol at the three schmuck gms not being happy at the offers for Mesoraco and Bautista what do they expect? Really would have liked to have gotten Pham.
Would the Cards have traded Pham for Wheeler? Would the Mets have done that?
I’m not a big Pham believer, so I hope the Mets wouldn’t have done that. The one that makes me wonder is if the Mets would deal Wheeler to the Braves for Inciarte. Braves have always liked Wheeler, who is from Georgia and was taken right before them in the draft back in ’09. Inciarte would give the Mets an athletic CF under control thru 2022.
Not saying I would do this deal – just that it makes some sense.
Id take that deal and sign off before medicals just you couldnt take it back. Inciarte is a game-changer player. Hes a real centerfielder. There’s no way the Braves make that move, but of they did…that would be a huge Mets win.
He’s the perfect Glavine II. Meaning, he’d suck or get hurt but become a beast again as soon as he goes back to Atlanta.
The Mets wont do anything because they don’t have a GM.God bless Alderson and I wish him well but he should have resigned and been replaced with a new hire.
That’s on the Wilpons not Sandy and he did resign
The Mets should not make a deal for the sake of making a deal. They should make a deal to improve the organization. Mesoraco and Joey Bats can still be dealt after the deadline. Trading Wheeler is something that if done now, should be a no brainer.
In the end, this was fine. Really, the next GM should be responsible for the roster and making major changes by the hydra would not be prudent for the organization…and yet here is the organization, again finding itself in an unenviable tactical spot, unable to win, unable to make moves to get better, like the clown show it apparently is.
Chris,
Good summary. Hey, even the three amigos had to listen in the rare event of a big overpay. This franchise has a lot to do couple with a track record that suggests they will struggle going forward. Regardless of who will be in charge, that person will need to work within the confines of the Wilpons, which is very challenging. But there are positives to build on, and despite the improved Braves and Phillies, the East is opennfor the taking over the next few years, even if the Mets have to make up some lengths.
Ender Inciarte is what the Mets envisioned Juan Lagares would become. But just as Chris F stated the Braves would never make that move.
Although just looking at Atlanta’s team ERA: just in the middle of the pack. Yet team offense is upper echelon. What a ballsy move for the Braves if they pulled the trigger.
Bottom line is the Mets hydra wouldn’t do it and I’m certainly not ballsy enough too.
I believe they’ve been broadcasting their position with the first two trades, which brought in 45 man use-ables for 2019…not long growth prospects or Lottery Tickets.
I totally disbelieve the baseball acumen and ability of whatever they’re calling the Management Structure. I don’t believe they have the vision or commitment to build around the 4 starters.
April 2019…. the Mets are now on The Clock
E –
I agree on the poor vision and commitment. Nonetheless, life goes on, and hopefully they will land some fresh administrative talent that can change the vibe. It is still hard for me to envision Jeff Wilpon hiring someone younger than him that he will yield decision making to.
I would have pushed to trade Wheeler. I just don’t trust him to remain healthy. I fear that this is going to be another Mike Pelfrey situation.
