If you thought the Mets had an offensive explosion last night, you should have seen them Thursday afternoon, as they erupted for two dozen runs as they downed the Phillies, 24-4, in the first game of a doubleheader.
Amed Rosario got things started with a leadoff homer. Rosario finished the day with a four-hit game with four runs and three RBIs. Kevin Plawecki also had a four-hit game, with two walks. He had three runs and three RBIs.
Jose Bautista and Michael Conforto homered for the Mets. Bautista had a three-hit game with a career-high seven RBIs despite not even starting the game. Bautista replaced Brandon Nimmo, who was hit on the index finger and went down in a heap. Initial X-Rays were negative.
The Mets finished with 25 hits, seven walks and one hit batter. And on top of that, the Mets were the beneficiary of four errors by the Phillies, which led to 11 unearned runs.
Corey Oswalt was the beneficiary of the offensive output. Oswalt allowed nine hits in six innings, with four of those being solo homers. Jerry Blevins and Jacob Rhame finished the game. Blevins also added an RBI single.
Wow…..40 runs in the last two games. Hasn’t this team had two week stretches of not scoring as many?
From May 30 – June 15, the Mets played 14 games and scored 25 runs. Oh yeah, they were 2-12
Was Asdrubal Cabrera still with the Mets when they had the 20 plus runs scored against them with Washington? If so he now has 2 such games this year with 2 different teams,
Nope, happened after he was dealt.
Gary Cohen said that this was the first time since the 1880s that a team scored 24 and gave up 24 in the same season.
They scored more than the Jets today.
