The Mets signed Jason Vargas coming off an All-Star season in 2017. But he got hurt at the end of Spring Training and struggled mightily upon his return. But in his last three starts, Vargas has been the guy that the Mets anticipated. Has he turned the corner?

No
No – every major league pitcher can have a short spurt of good performance. Do we look at two games or the other 18 months that he has sucked.
Really ?
Believe in Jason Vargas because of one good game ? This is the problem with the Mets.
Rose-colored glasses on everything. Vargas got hurt, ok, bad break, but he has not been even decent when he has been on the mound with last game the exception.
Get RiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiDDD of him, please. Or, if there are no takers (likely) maybe he can replace Blevins next year as a 1-2 out lefty in the bullpen. That is it. Mets need to face the music on some of these guys and move on: Vargas,Swarzak, Bruce, Plawecki, etc.
There are plenty of arms in the minors worth a shot at the # 5 starter next year.
Oswalt, Peterson, Dunn, even the fellow Mets got from Philly in the Cabrera trade, looks like a power arm.
Well, now that the ERA is under 7.00, sure, why not.
Seriously, he will be in the 2019 mix simply because of his contract, so if he can pitch his way onto the team, so be it. But, he certainly shouldn’t get in the way of someone outperforming him. At the end of the day, he is a 5ish inning #5 upper 30s guy at his absolute best. A placeholder slash swingman.
Mets always sign the wrong guy,Cobb,Lynn,Garcia were all out there. Instead of bargain shopping they could have gone all in and signed Darvish.
It would be nice if you put in a little effort and fact checked instead of repeating these blanket nonsense statements.
Don’t tell me that you think the Mets signed the right guys! You need to check the facts! What a homer!

Madman,
The Mets had a lousy free agent class last winter but the guys you mentioned have performed terribly, some worse than Vargas, and most cost more in salary and/or forfeited draft picks.
Hmmm,maybe FAs aren’t the answer?
FAs are good complimentary pieces when chosen wisely.
Yeah, Darvish could have been Wright’s and Ces’s roommate on the DL.
