Michael Conforto had a career game and Zack Wheeler completed seven innings to lead the Mets to a 9-4 win over the Phillies Monday night in Philadelphia.

Conforto had a two-run single in the fifth, an RBI double in the seventh and a three-run homer in the ninth to lead the offense. It was the most RBIs in a game in his career. The three-hit night upped Conforto’s OPS to .788 for the season.

Jeff McNeil continued to perform well, as he added three hits, two runs and an RBI. The Mets had 14 hits and all nine starters had at least one hit.

Wheeler was perfect through four innings and then ran into all kinds of trouble in the fifth, when he surrendered four runs and lost a 4-0 lead. But he settled down and gave the club two more innings. He’s now thrown seven or more innings in eight of his last nine starts, including six in a row. He picked up the win, his 12th of the season, which makes a career high.

The Mets are now 11-5 in September and 24-15 since August 8.

Michael Conforto has put the team on his shoulders and has carry them. He has 22 RBIs in September. In 46 career games vs Phillies he has 44 rbi’s. Imagine if they had Cespedes!
Jeff McNeil is absolutely amazing. He has been unbelievable in this short spell but I see this short spell being a long career. Shoot me if I’m an optimist.
Wheeler has been rolling over the second half of the season. His second half statistics are deGrom like. Why would you trade him instead of extending him? You couldn’t find a pitcher in the free-agent market as good as him. Also, he probably would sign the extension at a fair price. Just don’t get carried away with a long contract. . It’s better to pay annually more and shortening the contract.
Nice catch that Jackson made but Lagares is a better fielder and better hitter because of his BABIP.Jackson should not be on the 2019 roster because he is redundant.
Let’s Help deGrom and smack around Nola tonight. LGM

Agree on every point! I am worried that the Mets will give Lagares away, since he’s due to make $9 million next year. I’m always concerned that the penny-pinching owners will get involved.

Also, there was no legitimate reason not to bring up McNeil earlier. He could have played 3B or 2B, with Cabrera moving over to third. I notice that Cabrera plays at the “hot corner” for the Phillies, and actually looks pretty good there.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Lagares. Nobody will touch that 9 million dollar contract. I favor defense in center, especially for a team based on its starting pitching, and hope that he can hit 240-250and not get injured and play 140-150games.

Conforto playing like he has since the break sure cures a lot of Met ills. Here’s hoping this is the player he will be in 2019.
