Some teams are leery of having a lefty being their closer. The Mets are not one of those. An incomplete list shows Tug McGraw, Jesse Orosco, Randy Myers, John Franco and Billy Wagner as southpaws that closed for the team. Now news has come out that the Mets requested medical information on Andrew Miller, so the Mets could once again have a LHP come out of the pen to close the door in the ninth.
Or would you rather have lefty Zach Britton fill the role?
In order to get to that high end closer you’ll also need one more pitcher to bridge the gap. So hopefully the money is well invested in a Dave Robertson type.
Both Britton and Miller declined in 2018…Britton with 2 straight down years.
Hard Pass on Britton, without other info and Monery details…. Miller is also all about the backing info on his 2018 struggles
It’s been a week and I haven’t seen any reports, so I guess the mets are declining to protect any additional players from the rule 5 draft this year.
The deadline was Nov. 20th. The 40-man roster over at Mets.com lists 38 guys so perhaps there’s a guy out there that they like.
When do the Tender/Non Tenders happen?… d’Arnaud, Flores. I’m hoping they pass on both…that will signal Reality and Change
MLBTR says the deadline is Nov. 30
Hey—Brian’s post was before Mine…it’s time stamped at 10:19am—my “clock” now says 10:06am
?
I am not sold on Britton or Miller because of the recent injury history. Familia, Robertson and Herrera are better options. And they need two good relievers not just one.
I would love to see Jim Riggleman go into Fred Coupon’s office and tell him, “If I don’t get a new contract, I’m walking out.”
Hopefully with an in-house replacement ready at a moment’s notice, Callaway will get the quick axe when he continues with his bone head moves and costs us games in April.
But Gus the Coupons will say who are you? He’s not in the illustrious inner circle of Fred and Jeffy
Isn’t Riggleman collecting SS? Let’s go in the opposite direction as to what’s trending. Cora is awesome. He improved a 93 win team to 108 wins. Collins and Riggleman can play gin with the players to blend in.
