Would you rather get five small gifts or one big one for your birthday? Would you rather get three or four B-level free agents or one super star?

It depends on what the team looks like when I have to make the choice.
Bruce,Frazier,Swarsak,Vargas…no. Cespedes,Bay,nope. Gee I don’t know.
Not exactly on point but I’d rather have a Harper at age 26 than Cano at 36 and Lowrie at 35
I would fill in the holes in the roster (and then some) with short term, fair priced, B level free agents that are younger than 33 yoa. (Ramos, Familia). The draft would be a priority along with international signings. If a minor league “star “comes up I would try to extend him on his 5th year for three years for a total contract commitment of five years.(Wheeler and deGrom although deGrom would be an exception ) . This would give flexiblity to the roster and keep costs in check.. Long term expensive contracts seems to cripple a team when the don’t work. They also rarely work.
David and I started a podcast Wednesday and ran into all kinds of technical difficulties. So, we decided to re-do it on Friday. Ran into some more issues but we overcame them this time. I think this is well worth a listen.

I’m all for the Nationals signing Harper to a huge contract! Then, play him at first base, LOL Nats! Meantime, can they then afford Rendon? Probably not. Rendon a FA in 2020, my, wouldn’t he look nice wearing orange and blue?

If Chili Davis can get Todd Frazier back to being a productive hitter, he may be the best hitting coach ever! Charles, tell him that hitting to right field is legal now.
This appears to be BVW’s version of Win now
I anticipate Alonzo at aaa to start because Rosario is still cutting his teeth….. one crying baby at a time, when you believe you’re competing for a Pennant
The Vets will establish their level …. lots of infielders moving around….. some of them with new outfield Mitts on some days.
Fascinating article, and check out who they have #2 on the Steamer’s Mets rookie performance expectations and by how much! On a smaller wow! Scale, see how many pitchers the Braves have listed. Oh boy….

It was t even a word, just a reaction, LOL
deGrom… I’ve seen it written that there is expectation that the mets will take out his arb years and extend him for 5 years at similar average salary to Max and Price…according to Mike Puma
This is not smart…if I understand this to mean ripping up the recently signed deal and doing 150 million from 2019-2023.
If I’m deGrom, I don’t throw a Pitch without guaranteed money…that said, I don;t believe the Mets should be signing a 5 year Market level contract for a 31 year old pitcher with 2 years left in Arb.
Everyone should play it smart and nice. Jake should get extremely wealthy and the Mets should save a few bucks.
He is making guaranteed money, $17MM of it.
Yesterday Dan O’Dowd said in order for the system to be fair to the younger player, there needs to be arbitration for everyone. I think veterans would revolt and the kids would celebrate, but who really ever considers the youngster in anything in life?
