The following quote appeared in MetsBlog:
“I’ve never operated this offseason to wait and see if a market dropped,” Van Wagenen also declared. “In fact, all of our moves have not been market contingent, they’ve been roster contingent – how do these players fit?”
On one hand it’s refreshing to hear about the needs of the roster being paramount. On the other hand, maybe some market-contingent moves wouldn’t have resulted in a $100 million due to a guy through his age 40 season.
So Captain Spotlight, he of the $300MM is not good enough for me, is fifth and Opie is sixth in the MLBN’s Top 10 Right Fielders Right Now segment? Brings a smile to my face, although Scott Boras will have to sell harder now.
Ramos was eighth is nice and Girardi had some nice things to say about his offense. While Cliff Floyd wants to see Nimmo t a k e the everyday job and stop this platoon stuff.
Stanton is listed as a LFer on the list and he’ll be on the top ten Lfers for sure.
If BVW wants to take away the “ifs” and address the weakest roster links, he should cement the back end of the bullpen. There are plenty of guys still out there.
Agree sign two of Vincent, Warren or Kelley.
Agree, especially on the first two pitchers.
A couple of market contingent moves could be the cherry on the Sunday! Jones or Markasis, Gonzales or Hellickson, Warren,Strickland, Wilson or another.
Jones is nearly done and Markakis is a singles hitter I rather see McNeil in the OFer.
Good news for Wheeler, as Sonny Gray just completed a piss poor season, yet managed to get the Reds to commit a total of $38 mil over the next 4 years for him.
I’m not sure i get the Reds strategy… trying to stock up on #3-5 starters making good FA money? To try to flip for profit at the deadline?
Last year all the players were grumbing at the lack of money been tossed their way (and some still are), but we’ve seen the return of a lot of dumb signings again this year.
Maybe the secret is that Cano drinks the same chocolate milk as Tom Brady.

Danny Farquhar was the player for the White Sox that had an aneurysm in the dugout…
Yankees do happy things. Mets do stupid things. Yankees have a “family” and every player is welcomed. Mets have a hatchet and hack away at anyone they don’t want anymore.
Why can’t we just be Yankees fans?
The Yankees are “Happy”????…. They’re “Family”?????
Let Me Guess…you’re gonna miss Jay, and Gerson Bautista…am I right?
