From Baseball Primer’s Sam M:
“If you had told me that at the All-Star Break:
Pete Alonso would have 30 home runs and a 1.006 OPS;
Jeff McNeil would be leading all of baseball with a .349 average;
deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler would have combined for 70 starts and 425 IP;
I would have told you the Mets would have a comfortable lead in the National League East.
Um . . . not so much. This is not a baseball team. It’s an Irwin Allen disaster movie from the 70s.”
OK, here is my question.
Wheeler seems most likely to go.
Where do you think he will go and for who ?
The Mets have set Syndergaards price at multiple top prospects.
I’d like the Mets to take a strong position on 2020…. I believe they need to extend Wheeler now, and demonstrate that they’re gonna keep their front 3 starters.
This isn’t a tear down as a Major Market Team. Conforto, Nimmo, McNeill, Rosario, Alonso, Nido, Lugo, Gsell, Davis, Syndergaard…. there are a good number of cost controlled contributors at this point. They should have and use some payroll flex to compete next year.
