Marcus Stroman surrendered two, two-run homers as the Cubs downed the Mets, 5-2 Tuesday night at Citi Field in the opener of the three-game series between two clubs fighting for a Wild Card spot.
Pete Alonso gave the Mets the first lead, as he hit a solo homer leading off the fourth inning. It was the 42nd homer of the year for Alonso, establishing a new club record.
But Addison Russell put the Cubs on top with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and Javier Baez padded the lead with a two-run shot in the sixth.
J.D. Davis provided the other run for the Mets with a solo homer in the ninth inning. Wilson Ramos had two hits on the night, and was robbed of a hit in his first at-bat. He now has a 20-game hitting streak.
That Ramos hitting streak is the longest of the season to date for the MLB. He also had the longest streak in the NL last season at 18 games
