The Mets lost the rubber game of the series to the Marlins by a 5-1 score.
If on April 1, someone told you that a team in the Mets’ system used Jordan Yamamoto, Robert Gsellman and Yennsy Diaz in a game, your response would probably have been – how did Syracuse do? Alas, they were all pitching in the majors. And Gsellman and Diaz did just fine. Yamamoto had one bad inning, but it was enough to ruin the day, as he surrendered five runs in the second inning.
Once again, the Mets’ offense was missing, as they managed just six hits and only three times did they get a runner in scoring position. Cameron Maybin was dropped to fifth in the order and went 0-4 with two strikeouts. He’s now 0-16 with 9 Ks as a Met.
It seems the Mets read Rob’s article, and they realized they weren’t as good as they thought they were. McCann was hitting third…
Davis is coming back, and I can’t wait to never see Tovar, Maybin, and Drury DFA’d.
Can we make a trade with the injury gods and ask for a healthy Alonso, Davis, Conforto back in return for an injured Lindor, McCann, and Smith?
Only 1 guy in our lineup had a season 700+ OPS today and that was Fargas…
Maybin wasn’t moved far enough down the lineup.
The Good: Fargas looks like a player! Gisselman has remembered how to pitch!
The Bad: Maybin is horrible at the plate!
The Ugly: Yamamoto needs fielding lessons!
The Hopeful: McCann’s at bats were better. Diaz might be another useful bullpen arm.
Gut Reaction: Yamamoto didn’t step up big like Lucchesi but did pitch four innings like Lucchesi. The offense is nonexistent and that is expected with these players . Vargas is making the most of his opportunities. It would be nice to win 3 out of 4 vs Rockies but I’ll settled with a split.
Nice summary Steve_S.
Yeah, you have to wonder what is Luis Rojas seeing in Maybin that warrants him to hit 5th or anything other than 8th… there is so little chance of contact…
One also wonders if their preconceived “scripts” for the pitching will doom us every time a 5th starter comes up in the rotation. I’d really like to see the management make a good decision sometime from the dugout steps based on what they actually see!
Like we’ve all noticed Gsellman pitching better… why not start him and ride him as far as he goes, rather than waste his innings in a meaningless role. I’m afraid that Rojas’s poor judgement will lose many more games than he wins.
