The Mets rallied to tie both games of the doubleheader in the seventh inning. Both games were identical 2-1 scores, with the Mets winning the opener on an RBI single by Dominic Smith. The nightcap was a tough one, as twice they had a chance to put out the ghost runner on second but both times the infielder couldn’t make the transfer from the glove to his throwing hand and the ghost runner was able to safely advance.
A split’s not the worst thing in the world but when you win the opener and come back like they did in the nightcap only to fall short, you’re still left with a bit of an empty feeling.
