The best thing about this game was that the rain delay only lasted about 40 minutes.
In one of the most uninspiring efforts you could possibly imagine, the Mets fell to the Pirates, 4-1, in the opening game of the second half Friday night in Pittsburgh.
The Pirates had a pitcher who didn’t have great stuff and compounded the matter by not being able to throw strikes with his fastball. But the Mets let him off the hook time and time again. How bad was it? They went 0-12 with runners in scoring position.
Oh, and Francisco Lindor left the game early due to a side injury. It may make that decision to keep an extra infielder and DFA Billy McKinney look even better.
Miguel Castro threw a scoreless inning. It would be nice if he stopped giving up runs in every outing. So there was at least that.
A very disappointing beginning to the second half. How is it the Pirates can come out ready to play and the Mets can’t. Gotta fault Rojas for this. For all his “even-temper,” I’d like to see some fire from this team. Don’t make too much of Stroman’s bravado… he’s a 5 foot 7 inch competitor who made sure he was behind McCann when he reached Nogowski… who was a jerk.
The best way for the Mets to counter Nogowski is to get him out… they have had little luck with that. Looks like he and Reynolds and Frazier will just continue to hurt this Mets team who has really no business letting the Pirates look so good. Time for the Mets to rise up and dominate a few games, dominate a series. Anything less will continue to embolden lesser teams and the teams chasing them.
Psst… it’s Guillorme time… expect some game-winning actions…
