The Mets brought a knife to a gun fight, producing 12 singles and two doubles on a night where the Blue Jays hit five homers. The result was a 10-3 beatdown, in the middle game of a three-game series at Citi Field.
Down 6-0 in the fifth inning, the Mets put together five consecutive hits to cut the deficit in half. But home runs by the Jays in both the seventh and ninth put the game out of reach.
Five separate players had two-hit games for the Mets, including the top three batters in the lineup. But offense wasn’t the problem tonight. Taijuan Walker allowed 6 ER in 4 IP and surrendered three gopher balls.
