The Mets fell behind early and their comeback fell short, as they lost yet another one-run game to the Dodgers, this time by a 4-3 score.

The pitching matchup was Max Scherzer versus Rich Hill so it didn’t seem likely that this would be the game that the Mets would break their losing streak to the Dodgers. And the Dodgers scored twice in the first inning on two solo homers. LA added another solo homer in the fourth inning before the Mets cracked the scoreboard.

The Mets also scored via the long ball, as Brandon Nimmo clubbed a solo shot in the fifth inning. The Dodgers scored again in the sixth, as Miguel Castro issued a bases-loaded walk. That turned out to be the winning run, as Pete Alonso delivered a two-run shot in the seventh.

Kevin Pillar was hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth inning. He advanced to second on a fly out, giving the Mets two chances to bring him in. But the theme of the series, and the year, was the team’s complete inability to deliver with RISP. Both chances came up empty and the Mets finished 0-9 in the game with RISP.

well, this has been really hard to watch. which is why i haven’t been watching. 6-17 in the last 23. They have stopped being resilient. I was completely wrong about the deadline – an utter failure especially when seeing what meaningful trades have done for the Braves (although, come on – Washington, Miami, Baltimore all in a row? -Yankees, etc. Teams that were in worse shape than us, have lost significant pieces, but still were able to make the right moves. Our farm really needs to be rebuilt quick.
