The Mets scored two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings but the comeback fell short and the end result was another one-run loss, this one a 6-5 loss to the Braves Saturday night in Atlanta.
Carlos Carrasco didn’t give up a run in the first inning this time out. But he made up for it later on, allowing homers in both the third and fourth innings. His final line was 5 IP and 5 ER and he ended the year with a 6.04 ERA – hardly the SP2 the Mets thought they were getting.
Michael Conforto hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning for the Mets. Kevin Pillar and Brandon Nimmo had RBI hits in the ninth. After Pete Alonso, who drove in the Mets’ first run of the game with a double, was intentionally walked to load the bases, Jonathan Villar grounded out to end the game.
In a year where nothing went as expected, Carrasco was exactly that. Since he’s a free agent next year, let’s raise a glass to wishing him a year as good as this one was bad.
Baez was unavailable for even pinch hitting as for some reason he would not play in either of the last two games. The only thing Rojas said was it was not injury related. The inmates are definitely running this asylum. Let’s start by realizing that, before we start blaming players. I would hate for a player decision were made on solely this year, and it seems like from the moment the Mets trading for Lindor’s buddy, the Mets season went down the tubes. Just saying…
