The very first item of our Comment Policy/Terms of Service says this: “The expectation is that everyone knows the sites Baseball-Reference and FanGraphs.” There’s an incredible amount of information available at both of these sites – most of it free. If you’re a baseball fan and you’re not going to these sites multiple times a week – well, you’re doing it wrong.

It seems that maybe a few of you aren’t. Either that or you just get intimidated by how much is there. So, here are three tutorials to try to make it a little easier. The first one shows how to go to a player’s page and look at his game log, showing things you can do at those pages.

The second one is a little more advanced, showing how to get to RISP info, first for the league, then the team and finally the players. Recently, I outlined the steps in text form. Several people said this was helpful. Then, a few days later, a poster said he couldn’t find the information. So, hopefully this helps.

This last one shows what you can do with a paid subscription to B-R’s Stathead service. They have monthly and yearly plans available. If you’re hardcore, you should consider getting this. There’s just so many questions you can answer with this that would take you days or weeks or months – to say nothing of information that’s not available elsewhere.

Let me know if you find these useful and if so, next week will be one for FanGraphs

Very interesting Brian. I was the one that couldn’t figure out the RISP stats, so I look forward to trying again.

FWIW, I also get value out of the EPSN data pages:
