Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.

On Opening Day, Tylor Megill squared off against Patrick Corbin, with Megill winning the head-to-head battle. Each pitcher has pitched a second game and while they did not square off a second time, Megill still pitched better. It’s got to be particularly disheartening for Nationals fans, as Corbin is counted on to bounce back and be the leader of their staff. And there’s the not-so-little matter of Corbin’s salary. He’s in the fourth year of a 6/$140 deal. Meanwhile, Megill was a depth piece pressed into service and is making minimum wage. The Mets are 4-2 and the Nats are 2-4. Take out the two starts apiece for Corbin and Megill and the two teams are both 2-2. Hopefully, there’s more to separate the two squads than that. But it’s funny how it’s worked out so far.

Reminder that today is a day game, the first time to catch Max Scherzer as a Met in a real broadcast.

Yes, he’s LH and theoretically hits RH pitchers well, but come on, he has lost it (and can’t take PE-drugs now)!
Robinson Canó will be 40 years old soon, and needs to be cut sooner rather than later as a sunk cost. The 15 AB he’s gotten so far is 15 too many (Dom Smith has only 8 AB). Three hits (with one a cool bunt against the shift) and no power is awful. But this seems to be a trend going back a bit.

Living proof that spring training and regular season are not necessarily connected.

And yet when I suggested that they cut him immediately once his suspension ended, the majority of people wanted to bring him to Spring Training to see how he looked…

          Yup, and now we see…..

15ABs does not a season make!

    Megill awesome
Drew Smith did well in a tight game.
    Diaz maxed out.
Waiting to see what Ottavino brings.
    Wish we still had Castro.

The Mets may need another RH hitting infielder:
    McNeil, Guillorme, Cano, Smith LH
    Alonso, Davis RH
    Escobar, Lindor SwH

If we switch Cano for Astrubal (SwH) and we’d be better.

Sometimes those long term 100 million$ deals don’t work out.

This was a piece on Megill’s improvement and why.
