Seemingly whatever question you’ve had about the Mets has gotten a positive answer here lately. Everything came up roses once again for the Mets, as they downed the Nationals, 10-0, Tuesday night at Citi Field. The win clinches another series and the home town team goes for the sweep Wednesday afternoon.

Here are some questions that have been answered:
Can Trevor Williams hack it as a SP? 5 IP of scoreless ball
All they do is string together soft hits – can it last? A double and two homers tonight and 33 XBH in their last eight games.
Can their bullpen hold up? – Four scoreless relief innings tonight without using Edwin Diaz or Seth Lugo.
Will they pick a DH and give him consistent ABs? Dominic Smith sent to minors and J.D. Davis gets two hits. Davis is 8-20 in his last five games.
Is Brandon Nimmo going out with another injury that will sideline him for multiple months? Nimmo came on as a defensive replacement tonight and is expected back in the starting lineup Wednesday or Thursday.
Will the injured starters ever return? Tylor Megill has thrown BP and Jacob deGrom is long tossing with throwing off a mound expected any day.

The Mets are now 7-2 against the Nationals this year and hold a 16-game lead over the 2019 champs. The Mets are now 45-31 against the Nationals since they fired Dusty Baker, despite finishing below .500 in three of the four seasons prior to 2022. In two years with Baker as their manager, the Nats were 25-13 against the Mets. Thanks again for showing him the door, Washington.

Gut reaction the Mets swatted the Nats. Oh, I said that yesterday but they did swat the Nats again. Another series win. I win this afternoon sweeps the series and the homestand.
Williams and JD cash in on their opportunities and stepped up.
Guillorme is still hitting. Lindor has a nine game RBI streak going for him. Canha had four hits.
Offense is fun but pitching wins championships. It was the 8th shutout for the pitching staff this year. LGM

May be my favorite baseball quote ever, but if not, certainly one of them:
A writer once asked Earl Weaver what his opinion of a good game was, and he answered: “we score nine runs in the first inning and gradually pull away”. The Mets didn’t do it like that, but they kept pulling away and made this game more of a laugher than last night’s. I was impressed with Trevor Williams and would like to see him stay stretched out. I know Dallas Keuchel is a available now for just the minimum, but… I don’t know. Plus, I hear the bidding will be aggressive. I would lean on James McCann there as he caught him two years ago.

The Mets keep hitting and playing the good defense. One more game to focus on with a kid coming up from AA to pitch for the Nats and an exhausted bullpen, let’s take care of business before we pack any bags.

One more thing, I have often seen that when an employee gets fired everyone else perks up. I feel that may have happened last night even though Smith wasn’t fired. It makes everybody take notice and concentrate.

My belief is that everyone perks up when the guy who gets fired was a bad influence and that’s not my take with Dom. Everyone is pointing to the quote where he said he’d welcome a trade to a team where he could play every day. But in a regular work place – is that any different from wishing you were at a job where you made $20/hour rather than $12/hour?

Dom wasn’t some hot head or malcontent like Jordany Valdespin. He seemed to have many friends on the team and the biggest complaint lodged here was that he looked “sleepy.”

I’ve been a Dom supporter but I have zero problem with this move by the Mets. They needed to do something different with the DH spot and now they have. JD gets a chance at consistent playing time and I hope he runs with it. But if he doesn’t, it’s possible Dom is back in three weeks, when teams have to go to 13 pitchers. Unless MLB pushes that deadline back, again.

I agree with everything you wrote, but Dom was sulking and it was obvious. Seeing Dom’s reaction to Plummer’s homerun to tie the game on Sunday was a look of sickness. But, I wasn’t implying Dom was a bad teammate, just that whenyou send a message, everyone sees it.

I like Dom and am convinced he can be a very good player. However, he doesn’t feel that his chance will come and that’s getting him down, especially as he sees himself entering his prime, when many players make their big money.

I also agree with much that has been said. Except that I have less faith in Dom than others, apparently. I’ve seen him miss or foul off many middle middle pitches that a better hitter would have smoked. I have seen him start 0-2 in far too many ABs this season. I have seen him look less than intense (maybe just his style), but it may also not serve him that well in gaining supporters. I like Dom. But he is not in the top 25 on the roster. No one need apologize to Dom… he had many chances. Hopefully he catches for in Syr.

Meanwhile, I don’t see much need for Keuchel, unless he can also pitch out of the pen. With Smith ok and Megill about ready, we’re ok until Max and Jake are solidly coming back. If either stumbles on his return… well, maybe.
