Thursday night, the Mets lost a close game to the Dodgers that appeared like one from 2021. Friday night they got taken behind the woodshed, which seemed more like 2017. The Dodgers won, 6-1, in a game that didn’t feel that close.

Chris Bassitt had traffic on the bases nearly every inning and gave up two, 2-run homers. And they put up two more runs in two innings against the Mets’ pen.

Meanwhile, the Mets’ PA for the most part were non-competitive. The Dodgers’ pitchers certainly deserve credit. But Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, and Jeff McNeil are still looking for their first good trip to the plate.

Pete Alonso homered for the Mets’ only run of the game.

Some fans came into this West Coast trip overflowing with confidence, with dreams of seven or more wins dancing in their heads. Maybe they can still clean up against the Padres and the Angels. But at this point it feels like one win in Los Angeles will be a victory.

Brian… I love it. Say it like it is. Name used the word “outclassed” in the chatter. I believe it is fitting.

How the Mets come out on Saturday night will tell us quite a bit about their psyche. This is a good team that two hot pitchers cooled down immensely. Buehler is next followed by Urias, but the problem is the better pitchers have already pitched. While I have some confidence in Williams on Sunday, I can only hope Peterson brings his “A” game and doesn’t lose the strike zone, as he is apt to do. I hope they are pissed off tomorrow. Play Guillorme and Plummer, sit Lindor and Nimmo. Hernandez discussed how Nimmo’s swing has changed lately, and it could be due to the injury. As for Lindor, I can’t see how throwing doesn’t affect the healing.

I am not surprised by the results. The Mets had to come back to earth. They beat up the bad teams and now it is the moment of truth and real test. This is when we really need deGrom and Scherzer. As Brian said, hopefully we win one game in the series.

The Dodgers will be very difficult to beat in the playoffs.

Mike, the Mets didn’t just beat the bad teams, they beat everybody. The Cardinals are good, so are the Giants…. Problem is, the Mets have their better starting pitchers hurt and their bats caught a cold as soon as they saw Gosselin’s splitter and Anderson’s changeup.

Watching the Dodgers these last 2 games it is baffling how they got swept by the pirates and handled by the phils. Confounding. They are so good. I believe in our boys. A split is on the table and I know they can do it.

Gut Reaction: two teams that were offensive juggernauts met and so far, the Dodger pitching has stifled the Mets hitting. Next up is Peterson and Williams. Let’s hope for a split. Pitching usually wins championships and the Dodgers have excellent pitching. (But so do the Mets when healthy) . LGM

Pitching beats hitting every time. They pitch better. Further, the Dodgers hit better. they have a +119 run differential. That’s basically 50 more runs than the Mets, who have the same record.

The fact is the Dodgers are the class of baseball. Any team can lose a series, even a post season series, but no team is as good as the Dodgers.

Add to that, the Mets have a long track record of playing particularly poorly out west (central too). To some degree, this is not a litmus test as the team has been pushing in media, but we can all see, the Dodgers are a more complete team, and ferocious at home.

1 run in 18 innings? Yikes, thats just pure shite.

Its not the end of anything for the Mets, but it is a wake up call for Cohen and everyone else. June is brutal with 25 games. I think if they walk out of June with a 13-12 record, they still end up on pace for 100 wins. I think theres a pretty solid chance of losing all 4 in LA, and possibly 3 in Houston. I think they can take the Angels and both Miami series. SD and Mil will be very interesting. I think .500 in June is a reasonable expectation.

We cant get deGrom and Scherzer back fast enough.

The Mets are in Houston??? I didn’t know!!! I’m looking for tickets right now!

Buck needs to shake up the offense somehow. No one swinging it well right now besides JD. We need to grind against Buehler, get him outta there in five.

The team needs to grow up fast… this is life with the big boys. Yankees series will be no different.

It feels like noone has watched baseball for 50 years. They lost two in a row in San Fran and everyone was freaking out. Then they won 6. Its two games against the best team in baseball. Lets see how the next two go before we start insisting on a shakeup.
