For the second straight game, the Mets squared off against a pitcher that they should have shellacked. Instead, they got dominated and for the second game in a row, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-1 score.

Much like Saturday’s game, the Nationals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, only to have the Mets tie it at 1-1. But this time, the roof fell in much earlier. The Nats scored four unearned runs in the third inning, which was enough to make the impotent Mets’ offense essentially throw up a white flag.

The Mets hit some balls hard without any luck but that’s the most optimistic thing you could say about the performance. Keith Hernandez always talks about not giving away at-bats but it seemed like that’s what the Mets did, inning after inning.

Hopefully Buck Showalter gathers the team in the shower and hurls a bunch of bats at them, like Skip did in Bull Durham. Either that or they can get rid of the backup shortstop and the pinch runner and get a couple of bats on the roster.

Really disappointed this weekend. This is the worst time to go flat. Lead will be one game if the Braves close out their game today.

The Braves have done a great job in beating up the bad teams. Now, they go to Oakland. I hope they have a few tough series by the end of the year.

Let’s hope that Scherzer was only tired and does not have an injury. That’s baseball.

Gut Reaction: the Mets were flat. The offense needs a jump start. It is hard to win going 0-2 with RISP . They are desperate for new bats and for the old ones to improve. Vientos should be called up. Unfortunate error by McNeil and Carrasco couldn’t shut the door. Hunter again pitched well.
They are expected to win 2 of 3 against the Pirates but a sweep is needed to rebound from this series. LGM

Team meeting would be in order but I don’t see Buck yelling or throwing bats, etc. it’s more like “you are on the edge of what could be a memorable season, but you have to dig down and seize the day.” Seems the Braves already had that meeting. It’s still one game at a time. Tomorrow is another day and we’re still in first. LGM
