Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

For quite some time, Mets fans have been looking forward to the September schedule that had them playing a bunch of below-.500 teams. Tuesday night, the Mets dropped their third straight game to a last-place squad, this one an 8-2 loss to the Pirates.

If you watched the game, you know how futile the Mets’ offense was for most of the night. If you missed it, consider yourself lucky.

The Mets 4-5-6 hitters were a combined 0-11, with Pete Alonso hitting into two double plays. They were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and the only runs came thanks to a two-run homer by Brandon Nimmo.

You know it’s bad when James McCann is the offensive star of the game.

Wednesday brings a day/night doubleheader with the opener being a 12:35 start. The Mets might need both Chris Bassitt and Jacob deGrom to throw shutouts in order to win.

Trying not to have that panic feeling that we are watching the season slip away against the worst teams in the league. We should make the playoffs but that division crown is still ours for the taking. Of course the Braves won last night overcoming a game tying rally by the A’s. Time to dig down deep and start hitting the damn ball. Imagine this will be an active off-season with some free agent acquisitions and well thought out trades. That we really had few players ready to jump in was Cohen’s entire rationale for starting to build a minor league organization that produced better talent. Our last draft was considered strong by baseball analysts so we are making progress in that direction. But us Met fans want to end the drought this year. Bassitt and deGrom for the sweep today to put us back on top!!!

Gut Reaction: The team, obviously, isn’t hitting and scoring. They again went an O-fer in RISP. Lindor and Alonso are slumping. They weren’t rested during the season and it is catching up with them. The team needs offense and the solution might be in Syracuse. It’s certainly wasn’t in Pittsburgh last night Walker Is a disappointment since the all star break with an ERA of 6.25. McCann is having a late season push to get off the interstate. Maybe it could take the exit that says “Offteam” this off season and take Walker with him. Let’s win two today and take possession of first place exclusively. LGM

I wouldn’t feel so bad if we were losing to top teams. This team has one power hitter and he is colder than an artic winter. So is the rest of the team except Nimmo.

Pirates have a woeful team .219 batting average, and they score eight runs, ouch.
