The Mets pounded out 16 hits, seven of which went for extra-bases, en route to pounding the “always play us tough” Marlins, 11-3, Saturday night in Miami. Combined with a loss by the Braves against the Mariners, the Mets re-took the top spot in the N.L. East.
The Marlins scored first but the Mets rallied to tie the game in the third inning. But an eight-run fourth inning left no doubt on the game’s outcome. The inning was capped with a grand slam by Mark Canha.
Francisco Lindor added a solo homer in the fifth inning, as did Eduardo Escobar in the seventh.
Carlos Carrasco picked up his 14th win of the season on a night where he allowed just 1 ER in 6 IP. With the big lead, the Mets were able to rest all of their main relievers. The “B” squad gave up two runs in three innings but it had no impact on the end result.
Lindor and Escobar each had 3-hit games, while Jeff McNeil, Daniel Vogelbach and James McCann each had two hits
Offense is fun.
Let’s hope we haven’t had a return to the Jeckyll and Hyde Mets who have a few hits and a couple runs one night followed by whatever that rage was last night only to be followed by being 2 hit by a rookie the next.
Would be nice to see 6 runs and a big W today . Having squandered easy games early they need to rattle off 15 straight right now, or say 15 of the 17 remaining games.
