The Mets haven’t had the same success scoring runs in the first inning so far here in 2023 that they did a season ago. But don’t blame Brandon Nimmo for that. He’s batted 27 times in the first inning, reached base safely 13 times and has but two runs scored. Here’s how the players usually found in the 2-4 spots in the lineup have done in the first inning this year:

Starling Marte – 25 PA, .136/.240/.182
Francisco Lindor – 29 PA, .111/.172/.185
Pete Alonso – 16 PA, .154/.313/.154

Essentially, three of the club’s best hitters are doing their best Tomas Nido impersonation in the first inning. And for what it’s worth, Jeff McNeil is 1-for-10 when he bats in the initial frame. As a team, the Mets have a .175/.192/.223 line in 120 first inning plate appearances this season.

Maybe Gina can help.

Very glad to see Alvarez in lineup today (the 4th) w/ Verlander.

Frustrated that the only way Buck knows how to get Escobar into a game is by benching Baty.

Why does Guillorme have a job?

Just saw where Baty is playing against the lefty on Saturday and that Escobar is getting the start at 2B and figured both of these things would make you happy.

Just saw that Colin Holderman struck out the side on 9 pitches. Uncle Steve, if you see this, would you please put a moratorium on trading our young pitchers. Sure Vogelman was a useful pick-up but not for Holderman or any other pitching.
