Here are the Mets’ current totals and ranks with RISP:
PA – 551 (27th)
R – 173 (23rd)
HR – 11 (T 25th)
OPS – .694 (25th)
Far and away the best team this year with RISP is the Rangers. Here’s their stats in this split:
PA – 652 (3rd)
R – 300 (1st)
HR – 26 (1st)
OPS – .940 (1st)
That OPS is insane! The Cardinals are second in the majors and they have an .834 OPS. There’s not one player on the Mets with an OPS as high as the Rangers’ team. Francisco Alvarez leads the Mets with a .920 OPS. Here’s a crazy thought – Perhaps they should have him bat directly behind the guys who get on base, rather than ninth. The one good thing for the Mets in this split is that four of their top five guys in PA have good production, which helps explain how they’ve bumped up in runs from their low PA opportunities.
Still, my new life goal is to see the Mets have a .900-plus OPS with RISP before I die.
News that Texas did not take out insurance on deGrom! Insane! He’s due $30 million this year and $40 million next year. I wonder how much the premiums (probably high) would have been…..
News that Vogelbach will be jettisoned if (when) his BA falls below .200
There’s a better shot of MTG becoming a Democrat and AOC becoming a Republican than the Mets making decisions based on batting average.
Love, hate, or be indifferent about Buck and the front office, they are not moronic. They understand baseball and have access to more information that we as fans could ever have.
With those as huge qualifiers, why on earth is Vogelbach in the lineup?
I don’t recall the context, but a couple months ago I was ranting about someone getting playing time and David Groveman made the observation that they may be giving a veteran every last a chance before they cut him. (I believe my comment was about Escobar before Baty got the lion’s share of starts.). I thought David’s comment was astute then and I hope that it applies now. Maybe they are letting Vogey have one last gasp and then he’s gone. If Cohen is that close to hitting the roof then perhaps this road trip is the last of this current approach and we’ll see some changes after Pittsburgh.
Or possibly Vogelbach has owned Morton in the past? At least Alvarez is in the game. (Why wasn’t he the PH instead of Pham?)
On a different note, I hate seeing Drew Smith in the game. Anything besides his fastball seem to be meatballs. He should be well past this level of performance.
When he drops below 200 he is a goner according to reports. It shouldn’t be long.
You mean 200 pounds, right.
Anyone want to chip in on a bus ticket for Vogelbach? Don’t care where it’s going as long as it doesn’t show up at a Met game. It’s unexplainable that he still gets ABs. Put Escobar at 3B and let Baty DH or let Escobar play 2B and let McNeil DH for a game. Or let Escobar just hit from the left side and take a turn at DH. This is not rocket science. Real bottom line, aside from Alonso and Lindor’s power numbers, nothing about our offense resembles last years team that won a series nearly every time out. Do we have to wait until the trade deadline when we will be 10-12 games out?
Vogelbach is almost on the interstate, according to sources he hits it he’s gone. Do they call up Mauricio?
Three times you’ve cited “reports” about Vogelbach being gone based on his batting average. Can you provide a link to this report? Or is it Vinny from Queens?
I could like Mauricio to be called up also. He is a switch hitter and a multi-position infielder . He can also get at bats as a DH. He was injured with a ankle sprain Sunday. Syracuse hasn’t played another game. They don’t know if he is healthy yet. When he is ready the decision should be RHB Vientos or LBH Vogelbach. The problem with Vogelbach is not his batting average (an antique way of measuring players worth) because it is offset by his superior on base percentage. The problem is his slugging percentage. Vientos is a player without a position to get at bats. Therefore they should send Vientos to the minors instead of rotting away on the bench.
Baty has a 457 OPS over his last 13 games, 553 OPS over his last 26 games – perhaps it’s time for him to move back down in the order and not bat 5th.
Vientos can’t hack it as a bench bat and he’s not talented enough to start. Mets really screwed the pooch by not trading him before exposing him to major league pitching. As much as i dislike Guillorme, at least he provides something on defense. The downside with him is that Buck starts Guillorme too much when he’s on the roster, something we don’t have to worry about with Vientos. Stuck between a rock and a hard place with this one…
The Mets limped back to New York after a 1-5 road trip. The starting pitching is inconsistent and doesn’t give them length. The hitting is inconsistent. The middle relief is unreliable.
Lucchese should replace McGill in the rotation.Megilll and Peterson should be their middle relief pitchers.
Nimmo, Alvarez, Pham, Canha, McNeil and Lindor should be their everyday players. In the rare occasion when Alvarez doesn’t catch he should be the DH. Escobar should be the third baseman when a lefty is pitching. Then him and Baty can split the rest of the time. Vientos and Cahna should split time at 1B. Cahna should spit the time with Marte in the outfield . There are at bats available at DH for Marte, Baty , Vientos and Narvaez if they earn it.
They are four games under .500. It is time to let the players that are somewhat producing play .
