One of my favorite Bob Dylan songs didn’t make it onto an album, because it sounded a little too much like another cut from “Blood on the Tracks.” The song is called “Up to Me,” and unlike other Dylan songs, there’s no scene setting. Nope, we get right to it with this one. The opening lyric is:

Everything went from bad to worse

And that’s how it’s been here lately for the Mets. They dropped the opener of their series with the Pirates by a 14-7 score Friday night in Pittsburgh, extending their losing streak to seven games.

Remember a few days ago, we were lamenting the offense? In the last four games, the Mets have put 26 runs up on the board. And somehow, they’re winless. The pitching has just been abysmal. It was Tylor Megill’s turn to disappoint us, and in that respect, he didn’t disappoint. He allowed 9 R, 7 ER in 3.2 IP. At this point, I don’t care to witness another start by him this year. Or ever.

Earlier on Friday, there was an article here pleading for the Mets to replace Stephen Nogosek and Tommy Hunter in the bullpen. Half of that happened, as Nogosek was DFAd and Zach Muckenhirn took his spot. Muchkenhirn got into the game and did his best Nogosek imitation, allowing 3 ER in 2.1 IP. And Hunter gave more evidence in the already-huge case to release him, as he allowed two solo homers.

My expectations were either low or non-existent for the three pitchers the Mets used tonight. In that way, perhaps this loss wasn’t as depressing as Wednesday’s or Thursday’s, where the Mets’ two aces fell on their faces. Still, this just isn’t fun.

Gut Reaction: the first place Pirates easily handled the fourth place Mets and all the smoke in the world can’t hide this fact.
In his last start for Syracuse, Lucchesi had a seven inning two run game. His ERA is 2.72 and his WHIP is 1.18 in AAA.

How can they all be bad at the same time? We don’t run, hit or field and pitch well in the same game. They are basically unwatchable and such a departure from last year when so much fell in to place. The season is far from over but I can’t imagine how we can remake this team.

The team really showed fight and “want to” by scoring 5 in the 9th. I was proud of the way the guys battled.
