Jose Quintana was terrific but the Rangers started a LHP and then threw a bunch more lefties relievers and the final was a 2-1 loss Tuesday night at Citi Field.

Quintana threw six shutout innings and was backed by some strong defense. But things fell apart after he left, with Drew Smith serving up a gopher ball to the first batter he faced. Phil Bickford gave up a run in his second inning in the ninth, in what turned out to be the winning run.

The Mets’ only run in the game came with two outs in the ninth inning when Mark Vientos hit a homer off Aroldis Chapman.

New York actually out-hit Texas, 7-6. But it never felt like the offense was going to put together enough to put up a crooked number. Maybe they can pick up one of those hitters who were put on waivers. That’s how bad it’s been.

Brian, you should be given some kind of award by the Mets for continuing to give their team your full attention and effort. Wish they could reciprocate on the field.

Watching minor league news and box scores and seeing Parada got promoted to AA, and Baty has cooled off. However, there is this one kid, I think he can play second base, that has been pretty hot. I know that sitting Mendick or Arauz would cause an uproar, but rather than looking at the waiver wire, how about checking your 40 man roster first?

      Wilmer Flores for 2B?

Two more days until #freeMauricio. But yes , worried about what the fans might say about benching Arauz and Mendick. Do the Mets really have anything else of value to bring up from the farm who is ready to play at this level? Will they let Diaz throw a few innings in September. If they hurry and DFA Vogelbach maybe the Long Island Ducks can pick him up. Agree with Gus – Brian you are a saint for writing the nigthtly recap with the pain we are all going through with this team.

Gut Reaction: Drew Smith is having a rough season. He serves up home runs that are disheartening. He has one more year of arbitration. This year he is just an average reliever. Maybe 2024 will be better for him. Vientos’ homerun and his season is reminiscent of “a little too late”. Carrasco was put on waivers before the game.
