The Mets put on their hitting shoes, as they pounded out 14 hits and 10 runs – only the third time this year they’ve reached double-digit runs – as they blew out the Marlins, 10-4, Wednesday night at Citi Field.
The Mets put up crooked numbers in four different innings, including the first two. Harrison Bader gave them an early 2-0 lead with a home run, the first of three dingers for the team in the game. Starling Marte went deep in the fifth and Francisco Lindor left the yard in the eighth.
David Peterson was the recipient of the offense and he picked up the win, though it was far from a good outing. He allowed all four runs in his five innings. While Peterson got the win, he saw his ERA rise to 4.32 for the year.
Three relievers combined for four shutout innings, with Dedniel Nunez providing 2.1 scoreless frames.
Tyrone Taylor had a 4-hit game and was one of four players with a multi-hit night. Eight Mets had at least one hit, with only Jeff McNeil taking the collar, although he did score a run. Bader, Marte and Fracisco Alvarez each drove in two runs.
Offense is fun.
Gut Reaction: the Mets could solve their problems if Braxton Garett pitched against them everyday! Bader and Marte have exceeded expectations this year. Vientos got his daily RBI. Inglesia deserved the start against the lefty. Nunez struck out 5 of his 7 batters he faced in a perfect outing. Him and Young have salvaged the bullpen.
The lineup was the best lineup we have had in a while. Alonso isn’t a #2 guy and what took so long? Said it from last year, Alonso is a #5 hitter on a real team: low average and OBP, but can clean the bases quite often. Of course, 10 runs make everything look better…
Gary Cohen ragging on the Jets was quite comical and cruel. As a former 40 year season ticket holder, he has the right.
In reading Nimmo’s interview on SNY, seems like the Automated Ball Strike system in AAA has no top of the zone… that’s bad. No wonder all guys are raking. Where’s Acuna’s raking?
Offense is fun. Winning is good. Chicks still dig the long ball. For 1/162 of 2024 there is joy in Metsville. Peterson (and Megill) are what they are.
