After a seeming three-game hangover, the offense busted out for the first time in the second half, producing 11 hits and three home runs en route to a 6-4 win over the Marlins Monday night in Miami. The Mets split their four-game set against their division rival and finish this weak part of their schedule at 11-7, a .611 winning percentage.
Jeff McNeil continued his recent offensive turnaround with a two-run homer in the second inning. He’d later add a sac fly in the fourth to finish with a 3-RBI night.
Francisco Lindor added two solo homers, which upped his SLG to .464 for the season. That’s a nice rebound from the .356 SLG he had on May 1.
Once again, David Peterson was the beneficiary of the Mets scoring runs early and often. He allowed 11 baserunners in 5 IP yet danced around to only allow 2 ER. He got the win and upped his mark to 5-0.
Edwin Diaz loaded the bases in the ninth inning but limited the damage to one run, which was enough for the Mets to claim the victory. He picked up his 12th save of the year.
The schedule gets harder the next nine games, starting off with two games against the Yankees in the Bronx.
Gut Reaction: Lindor is the best player on the team. He has a 4.1 bWAR this year and a .978 OPS in the last month. In the last month there is also a revitalized McNeil. He has a 800 OPS in the last month. He is hot and he should be starting right field and Inglesia should be starting at second base. Peterson was flirting with disaster in the fifth inning . Maton had a good inning in his appearance.
Let’s go at least 5-4 in the next nine games.
