Jose Quintana had a sparkling outing to continue both his recent hot pitching and his season-long dominance of the Nationals, leading the Mets to a 10-0 victory Wednesday night at Citi Field. The win upped the Mets’ record to 84-68 and they finish the year 11-2 against the Nats.

Quintana had a rough first inning, as he had runners on the corners before getting the final out. He then proceeded to allow just two baserunners in the next six innings, one of which was eliminated on a double play. Quintana allowed just two hits and two walks in his seven-shutout innings. He now has a 23.2 consecutive scoreless streak overall and this season, he’s thrown 21 scoreless innings versus the Nats.

On June 9, Quintana was 1-5 with a 5.29 ERA. Now he’s 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA. And that’s despite a five-start stretch in August where he was 0-3 with a 6.35 ERA. Quintana’s turnaround this season has been nothing short of remarkable.

This was a scoreless game before the Mets broke out with a nine-run frame in the fourth inning. They were six-for-six with runners in scoring position, with the big blast being a three-run homer by Brandon Nimmo to cap the scoring. After hitting three foul-ball homers, it was especially nice to see Nimmo hit one fair. It was his 20th HR of the year and he now has 81 RBIs.

The Mets had 11 hits, with Tyrone Taylor, Mark Vientos and Luisangel Acuna each getting two knocks. Acuna hit a homer in the eighth inning for the game’s final run.

Phil Maton and Huascar Brazoban closed out the game, a three-hit shutout. It was the Mets’ eighth shutout in their last 51 games, an indication of how good the starters have been here recently.

It’s all teams with winning records from here on out, as the Mets close the year with four against the Phillies at home and then three road games versus both the Braves and Brewers.

The blowout wins the past two nights have the Mets’ pen in good shape, with Edwin Diaz, Reed Garrett and Jose Butto all having had two days off before the series against the Phillies, which will kick off with Luis Severino getting the series opener Thursday night.

I predicted 91-72 after the break. Feeling good abt it. I think k we take 3 of 4 from the Phils

Phillies lost. Meaning they can clinch the division with 1 victory at citi. I have a sneaking suspicion these Mets aren’t going to let that happen.

I’ve had them getting 88 wins since spring training but I think they’ll need more. Nice win and sweep of the Gnats. Another nice game by Acuna in the 9 hole and filling in for Lindor. Poor Bader with the 0-for but he did score a run. Great outing from Q. Bring on the Phillies.

That was some pitching by Quintana !!!
Acuna has had some week !!!
    Sweep !!!
I expect a split with the four games against the Phillies but a series win would be so nice.

Glad to learn i am not a curse. After watching them drop 2 to the Brewers in the opening series and witnessing a loss in London, i finally saw a live win in 2024!

But why was a 35 year old expiring pitcher not allowed to pitch more than 90 pitches and 7 innings? I will never understand.
