For the third straight game, the Mets put up 10 runs, the first time in franchise history that feat has been accomplished. And that was enough to down the Phillies, 10-6, Thursday night at Citi Field. The Mets are now 14-4 in the month of September.

Six of the Mets’ 11 hits went for extra-bases, with four of those being homers. Mark Vientos and Pete Alonso went back-to-back in the first inning, giving Luis Severino and early 2-0 lead. But Severino gave it back with a two-run homer. No worries as Brandon Nimmo answered back with a two-run homer to make it 4-2.

Severino allowed another run to score and again the Mets came back with an answer. Francisco Alvarez cracked a 3-run homer, Nimmo had an RBI double and Vientos drove in a run with a single to make it 9-3 after four innings.

The Phillies made it somewhat close by scoring three runs off Danny Young. But the Mets’ better relievers restored order and shut them out the rest of the way.

The Mets are now 17 games over .500 at 85-68, tying their highwater mark of the year.

Great win against the first place Phillies and another day moving forward without Lindor. Severino worked through 6 with just two walks, Young started to open the barn door, but the pen shut them down. Acuna with another hit and RBI as he has started his Mets run by hitting .421. He must think he’s the second coming of Iglesias. Alvarez flexing some muscle with a huge HR and Vientos crushing a ball that got out before you could almost follow it. Good time for Nimmo and Alonso to get into the HR act and boy we need a strong finish from Pete. Martinez had the only 0-for on a team with 11 hits and a record tying 10 runs in three straight games. Anyone still unhappy the Mets let Walker go? Sanchez, Suarez and Wheeler in the next three but I like. Peterson and Manaea to take us deep into those games. It’s always one game at a time as a Mets fan. Nine games to go. LGM

Gut Reaction there were very positive signs in this game. Obviously scoring 10 runs is a positive. More important they are firing on all cylinders.
Alvarez hit his fourth home run in the month and has an OBP of .354. He has six walks this month. Alonso also hit his fourth home run this month and has an OBP of .356 with seven walks. Both of them are mashing and are more selective with in their swings.
One more win in the series assures them with a split. I think they are in position to win this series.

aside from the obvious fairly amazing recent results, Im just super happy the team is turning it on when Lindor is recovering so he doesnt feel the added pressure of not contributing at the moment.
