Mark Vientos can hold his head high. The rest of the team needs to do some soul searching. It was a disappointing night for the Mets, as they didn’t hit or field particularly well and lost to the Braves, 5-1, Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Some poor defense did in Luis Severino early. And the Braves had some soft hits in there, too. But the bottom line was that Severino gave just four innings and left with his team trailing, 4-0. Ryne Stanek gave up a homer in the fifth to make the potential comeback even harder.

But there was no comeback because for the second time this year, Spencer Schwellenbach made the Mets look impotent. He allowed just three hits and one run in seven innings. Vientos had two of those hits, including a home run in the seventh inning, his 26th HR of the year.

The rest of the Mets’ “B” relievers kept Atlanta off the board. If they’re able to play on Wednesday, the pen should be in good shape. Now for the rain to hold off and the bats to come to life. It will be a tough task, as they go up against the favorite to win the CY Award.

But the good news is they may have Francisco Lindor back. Lindor came to the on-deck circle but the last out was made before he could come to the plate.
