THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their team; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. The World Series, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as a CHAMPIONSHIP should not be highly rated.

Who knew Thomas Paine was a Mets fan?

OK, the Mets are on the fringes of Wild Card contention and then lose two out of three at home to a team above them in the standings. Yeah, that happens. But it wasn’t just any team above them, it was the Braves, the team leading the chase and a team the fan base would like to beat perhaps more than any team in the league. Okay, kid, wipe the blood off your nose and get back up.

Wait, what? We lost Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy in the game, too?!? I can’t decide which quote from Rocky to use – “Cut me, Mick” or “Throw the damn towel!” Since I went to a bunch of games in the late 70s-early 80s, I guess I’m not a throw in the towel kind of guy when it comes to the Mets.

“Go ahead, cut me.”

I’m going to watch the 2011 season until the end. I want to see Lucas Duda hit. I want to see Nick Evans get some more playing time. I want to see if Scott Hairston can continue to produce. I want to see if Jonathon Niese can tie Ron Darling for second place in most wins in Mets history by a 24-year old (16).

It’s just too bad my eyes are so swollen right now that I can’t see anything.

I love the Mets, even though they’re starting to llok like Morpheus toward the end of the first “Matrix” move.

One has to look no further than Monday’s win to see their resolve. It’s flabbergasting, exhausting and surreal!

This team really does compare to Rocky. They’re not elegant, they always take a beating trading punches, but in the end, their heart and toughness puts them on top more often than many expect.
