“I should not be by home plate, ideally,” said Murphy, who hit a two-run homer, accounting for the Mets’ only runs of the forgettable evening, and upping his team-leading RBI total to 22. “I was watching Reynolds over there. With the base open, I thought they may try that. When he broke, I broke. It was the wrong play.”

Collins said: “There are times that players try to do extraordinary things when the ordinary is all that’s needed. We’ll leave it at that.”

No matter how much baseball you watch, the game never runs out of ways of surprising you. Has anyone ever seen the second baseman charge on a safety squeeze play?

Off-topic, except for the “smacking my head on desk” quality:

TC told Adam Ruben that he considered playing Ceciliani today, but the series was “too important.”

Which tells me he really doesn’t understand why you rest players in the first place. It’s not to give others a chance, it’s to keep those players fresh and productive over the course of a long season. Especially when they are aging veterans. And, you know, it’s May 20th.

I’ve long wondered how he’ll handle things when games truly get important. My take is he’ll be really, really tense.

An abundance of Bonehead plays= bonehead manager. Whether it’s on the base paths or the infield. They deserve each other. Third place here we come!

Brian… The BBP…”The Danny” decribes this Bad Baseball PLay>

I believe Murph should have drawn an error on that play.

Question, if Murph Fields that Bunt, does it increase his Range Factor and add to his defensive stature??

This is a night to Loudly Bench Dan Murphy. If there’s a leader at the Helm….not to mention the cluhouse… he should be benched with the purpose of focusing on the game. Everyone should know it, and Murph should pledge a better effort.

This team is long years into the habit of publicly confronting their young players—it’s the Vets…The “stars”…. that’s where you show you’re serious.
