Dan Epstein, the man who gave us Big Hair and Plastic Grass, pens an article for Vice Sports on the 1976 TV show based on Jim Bouton’s best-selling book. I watched all the episodes but I don’t remember too much about it. I remember that football player Ben Davidson was used as a baseball player. If memory serves, it’s because they thought Gene Brabender, the real-life pitcher who Bouton portrayed as a scary dude in the book, just wasn’t mean enough on film. There was also an episode with Reggie Jackson, or at least his HR balls.
