The New York Mets (51-50) dropped a 3-2, 13-inning decision to the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night at Citi Field. The loss dropped the Mets to 11-21 in one-run games.
Trailing 7-2, the Mets came screaming back, scoring one run in the sixth inning and four in the eighth inning to tie the game. Carlos Beltran hit his first home run of the season in the sixth, cuting the Cardinals lead to 7-3. Angel Pagan followed in the eighth inning with a two-run homer and folowed later with a bases-loaded pinch hit single to tie the game.
The Mets are now 31-17 at home and have fallen 7 1/2 games behind the division-leading Atlanta Braves (3-1 win over the Washington Nationals) and four games behind the second place Philadelphia Phillies (7-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks).

Johan Santana (8-5, 3.11) was tagged for six runs in the first inning. He only allowed one run after that, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs and 13 hits in the game (106 pitches/69 strikes).
Comparitively, the Mets bullpen — Manny Acosta, Hisanori Takahashi, Elmer Dessens, Francisco Rodriguez, Bobby Parnell, Pedro Feliciano and Raul Valdes — combined to pitch 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run and three hits.
Carlos Beltran went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, his first of the season and first major league home run since September 26, 2009 against the Florida Marlins. It was Beltran’s first home run at Citi Field since June 9, 2009 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Jose Reyes went 3-for-6 with a walk, RBI and a run scored.
David Wright also went 3-for-6 with a run scored.
Angel Pagan hammered his ninth home run of the season, a two run shot in the eighth inning. Pagan was 2-for-5 in the game and is now batting .305 this season.
Mike Hessman, making his first start of the season, delivered a two-run double in the first inning and went 1-for-4 in the game.
