It’s Thanksgiving weekend and I have no interest in football. My basketball team – the Knicks – are unwatchable. I don’t do black Friday. In my free time I obsess about the Mets and it’s nice to know I’m not alone. Among the things that I’m thankful for is having a place to connect with knowledgeable, passionate Mets fans. Wishing you all a great holiday weekend.
Now on the rumor mill is Yan Gomes. Ehh, ok, not really excited about his bat. Defense is better than what we have had. Could be a piece to the puzzle. Cheaper than Grandal and Ramos.
So what do we give up for Gomes. I would love to give them Bruce, but it smells to me like they will want Nimmo or Conforto because of their weak outfield and probable loss of Brantley. Maybe a larger deal is brewing.
What are your thoughts?
Mike, Gomes is only under contract for one year. Bruce is closer to his value than Nimmo or Conforto. Possibly throwing in Hanhold, Rhame, a similar low level reliever with upside, will be enough to do it. I wouldn’t break the bank for a one year rental.
It’s going to be a busy and exciting off season. Enjoy!
Matt..all the best to you as well…unlike you though, I am a football fanatic and can’t stand basketball. So with the Giants and Jets lost season I’m Really looking forward to the Winter Mtg and hoping we see some real positive changes in the Met FO thinking.
Hey – the Knicks just beat the Celtics. And although the Knicks’ record is pitiful, they’ve been in the majority of games that they’ve played. And given that they’re playing without two starters and that their coach is more interested in experimenting with combinations than maximizing wins – I’ve been happy with their performance this year.
Your a half full guy,Brian!
I enjoyed seeing the Knicks take down the Pels tonight after a close loss in New Orleans.
So, the Indians want an OF? Who do the Mets need to kick in with Juan Lagares to get Yan Gomes? The salaries are pretty close, with Lagares making a couple of million more.
How about Lagares + Plawecki for Gomes?
Fair, but I wouldn’t do it if I were the Indians. Lagares is too injury prone to hang your hat on, and they need to build what they hope is a playoff team. I’d rather Bruce, as Mike brought up, and a throw in, it’s more dependable.
