Reports have the Mets’ managerial search as over, with former Mets star Carlos Beltran, who left the team under less than favorable circumstances, to take over as their new skipper.
When Beltran was traded, the return was a prospect named Zack Wheeler. It’s sort of fitting that now when Wheeler seems primed to leave the club, that Beltran is set to return.
And just for further kicks, it was reported earlier today that Beltran would like to have Terry Collins as his bench coach. Everything old is new again!
Beltran it is! Let’s see what he can do with the roster he is given. I wanted Girardi, but I’ll settle for Beltran.
Go Carlos – now go buy your Bullpen for Dummies book.
Carlos, pssst , Tony Pena for bench coach.. if he doesn’t want the gig, Mike Scoscia…. if he says no, try Bengie Molina. There’s something they all have in common, can you see it? Don’t even think about Bozo the Manager again.
I have a bad feeling about this…

Beltran has to do a good job. He owes us from the incident in his 06, when he left the bat on his shoulders for strike 3 in the league championship series.
I will throw up if Collins is any type of coach.
Ex Players have recently translated well and quickly. Beltran was always a guy who Players gravitated to as a Leader.

He wasn’t my first choice, but I’ll be open minded. Terry Collins is a decent choice as bench coach for a new manager who has not managed at any level before. I just hope he retains Phil Regan as pitching coach.
Agreed on keeping Dr. Phil as Pitching Coach. Davis, too, for hitting coach.
Always liked him and hear that he’s likable and players respect him. Just hope he can manage a bullpen better than Callaway.
From Jeff Todd’s article on MLBTR last night:
“The Mets have officially named Carlos Beltran their next manager. He’ll reportedly earn approximately $3MM over the guaranteed three-year term, with a club option to follow.”
I was surprised that the Mets hired a manager that had no experience managing at any level and no major league coaching experience.
There are two quotes that I took from the introductory press conference. Brody said that Carlos had a winning attitude, was a proven winner and he knows how to get the advantage on the opponent. Last summer I lamented that Callaway didn’t have a killer instinct to win. I think that Carlos has that instinct.
Brodie also said that he wouldn’t have to inhale when he entered the managers room. I took that as meaning that he would inhale and say “what are you doing?” when he entered Callaway’s . Brodie seems to feel that Beltran will have more consistency and more knowledge with his game decisions.
I respect Carlos Beltran as a person and as a player and would have preferred him as the bench coach. Because of the respect I have for Beltran I will have an open mind and wish him luck . LGM
